The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 主旋律命题式电影，大时代潮流下普通人的命运。灰白色调，云雾蒙蒙的山景，变化多样的环境音仿佛置身此地。红色衣服的少女，战士鲜血染红了大地，都值得铭记。

独特的战争片切入视角让人眼前一亮，对于战争残酷的记忆也因此更为深刻。
看电影都快睡着了，没有战争的大场面，画面黑白的，剧情无聊。

一部在生存与毁灭间行走的战争电影，在探讨个体的求生意志与忠诚使命的矛盾之间，呈现了一部体现人与战争关系的诗性电影
土方岁三的奋斗，风起云涌的幕末江湖纪实片。
画面较暗，但运镜质感却很唯美，故事感一般般，还行吧！
还没有哪一部战争片让我有这么新奇的体验，诗意与现实并存，突出战争的残酷，让“浙西南革命精神”可以很好地走进观众内心。
不过，属实太流水账了。
看电影都快睡着了，没有战争的大场面，画面黑白的，剧情无聊。
单看海报就感觉好有画面感，期待看到这部电影，期待中国电影能够一直有创新不断突破～～电影人，加油！
一部值得二刷的电影，影片中有许多意象是表达耐人回味，水中幻觉、树林幻觉，蛇与烟雾等等，第一次看战争片需要注意这么多细节
这部电影还行吧，时长感觉有点短，音效感觉还不错，情景也还行吧。
在很多拍摄手法上都跳出了传统战争片，但内核还是一脉相承的。很大胆，挺不错的。
近三年命题作文里的满分作文。平静，真实，尊重人性。
厌恶司马氏给血腥历史安插温柔女性。也厌恶导演的悲情化处理。三岛由纪夫说黑泽明的人道主义是幼稚的人道主义，若伊见今之原田，黑泽或也能得到些君子固穷的赞许了。
