Constantly on the hunt and suffering from hallucinations that drive his violent nature, an unnamed man is capturing women and savagely beating them to death. Meanwhile, a woman is luring men into a violent end, by way of her knife. Driven by the same force to make the opposite sex suffer, the killers’ fates intertwine. The two must face off in a battle to the death, in which they are forced to reveal the horrible truth behind their addiction to murder.
“Brutal” takes an interesting approach to its visuals, drawing heavy influence from Western “Grindhouse” films, using a filter to make the footage appear grainy, damaged, and with light and color fluctuations. Unfortunately, the visual styling ends up feeling misguided, as other than applying the filter it does not imitate any other aspects of the “Grindhouse” genre. Despite trying to dirty up the film, it is apparent it was shot on digital. The cinematography is also a step above most “Grindhouse” productions, with Takashi Hirose proving he has talent behind the camera. Exterior shots to those taking place in small spaces are all competently framed, lit, and transition well. The decision to add an effect on top of the work hurts the film’s imagery and even gives a sense of desperation to try to capture a certain type of nostalgia with the audience, instead of relying on its own strengths. It is unfortunate when one creative choice can hurt a production so much.
The story of “Brutal” is simple but effective, it does attempt some sort of social commentary about the violent nature of men and women, but it does not offer enough depth into the subject to justify the amount of violence on display. The film does end on a strong note with an interesting twist, with a reveal that is bound to gross some out, while giving others a chuckle. In spite of its simple nature, those who enjoy films that make them somewhat uncomfortable and enjoy the challenge of getting through some ultra-violence, “Brutal” poses a fun and entertaining challenge in that regard.
2022-03-25 导演究竟是不是从Get Out剧组里逃出来的？剧作也是分裂得可以，我打球是为了让我离黑人远点，但是打完球却希望黑人能隔我近点。
两位在公开赛年代加起来得过30个女单大满贯的姐妹不是主角，这没什么。但是，除了他，女儿们个个面目模糊，即使维纳斯有生以来第一次独立做决定，拒绝Nike的第一个Offer的时候，看起来也像个工具人。教练和经纪人们都像傻子。妻子好一些，在去对面与邻居交涉时。在父亲与教练谈判、丢下孩子、阻止维纳斯参赛时，都有光芒。不能算体育电影，因为毫无悬念和紧张感。不论维纳斯在场上遇到什么事，你都不会为她担心，因为你知道她总是会赢。这个父亲的设定是自负而又自卑，怂中带刚的那种，吴孟达可能可以比史密斯演得好。情节毫无波澜，平稳拖沓缺乏吸引力。整部两个半小时，还不如最后的真实录像。期待《独自上场》。
Cameriamge 2021// 很好的片子 很小资 是那种好的美国片子 并不是很有野心 但非常sweet 摄影风格我一直以为是hoyte的 结果看到最后才发现是Robbie Ryan 但非常漂亮的影像 自然主义 非常柔的光但却又不失反差 时常使用中全大全等景别还拍的好实在很难得 毕竟表现人和城市在影像上是个很大的主题
我以为更多重心会放在一开始不被看好的妹妹身上，中规中矩吧，但并不是威尔史密斯最好的表演。
就有点无聊，看不大进去，最有意思的是出现同时代其他网球巨星的时候，桑普拉斯啊格拉芙啊罗迪克什么的，因为我自己就是差不多从这些人开始看网球的，所以感觉还挺亲切。老威这个教育理念是真的不错，不过不知道存不存在美化的成分哈！
虽然138分钟很长，但是看到最后觉得值得没有跌宕起伏的情节，平铺直叙很舒服，虽然前面铺垫太长会容易放弃，但总体看下来还是觉得励志
一路都在落泪。when it started with fungus, you know it’s going to be good. What an amazing casting. A bit American centric though. Goddamn the reflection on motherhood. Single child no support system. Different family systems. Hmmm. Human connection, expression of emotions, it’s ok to be not fine.
不喜欢。说教味道太浓了，絮絮叨叨的两个半小时，威尔史密斯饰演的爸爸一直到最后都很拉垮。
很像摔跤吧爸爸，但国王理查德相比之下既没有这部神作前半段的幽默，也没有它后半段的感动。我只是看到一个非常固执非常自负的父亲。
主要讲她们的爸爸，看起来是在专业人士面前不露怯，有长远目标的人。
#代达罗斯放映#第二场。除了史皇等人的表演的表演，没啥看点，有点老套。为什么叫他国王，是因为他在家里近乎独断专行吗……
虽然是传统的体育传记片，但电影在剧情处理上有些头重脚轻，最后真实片段的闪回让整部电影黯然失色。威廉姆斯姐妹的一生似乎都在父亲的计划下顺利生活，但其实父亲理查德、母亲奥拉塞纳，以及威廉姆斯姐妹自己都是这段传奇人生中不可或缺的一环。
亮点全在父亲理查德这个角色对于种族和家庭的诠释上了，也是我目前看过的相对比较温柔的一个“鸡娃”故事。
两个女儿成功了，这个爸爸就是国王；没有成功，那他就是个自大狂、偏执狂。个人觉得，里面妈妈这个角色也蛮酷的哎，很帅气
努力自信，制定计划，日复一日、追逐实现它！... ^ ^
#当我们谈论女性运动时在谈些什么# 刚好赶上女足和谷爱凌热，看到这部电影又吐了。为什么女性运动员自身成绩如此卓越，人们的目光还是聚焦在她们爹身上？电影名为什么叫“国王理查德”？本应很女权的题材，最后还是在彰显归顺和服从于父权统治下的成功逆袭。而这个成功范本中，女性再次被折叠了。网球女冠军的诞生，似乎跟女孩本身的天赋、努力和自我激励毫无关系，跟体育运动本身给人带来的激情、享受、成就、荣耀毫无关系。这份成功只是一个有着深度种族焦虑和失败恐惧的父亲，将自己的人生目标凌驾于女儿并成功将之洗脑的故事、一个78页训练计划中刚愎自用的策略、一个锱铢必较的KPI、一个强势鸡娃实现阶层跃迁的成功学模板。而在这个过程中，他那种偏执狂妄、专制霸权、压制女性、自卑到极限反弹出的自以为是和盛气凌人，真的令人嫌恶。
现在看他就觉得是有anger issue的人 而且传记片怪无聊的 可能我真的不喜欢鸡爸鸡妈这种吧
不觉得史皇能拿下小金人 这电影也过于平淡了
威尔史密斯演得很传神，但影片我并不喜欢。理查德到底是专横霸道自负的人，还是用坚持和信念赢得人生？角色不讨喜，一会嘲笑黑人一会讽刺白人，黑人导演模糊又混沌的态度。放大那场比赛的上厕所段落，也是没必要。很多真实人物估计都不愿承认片中的自己。大小威的演员应该互换一下。既不励志又没有个人魅力，只是他们真实的人生足够传奇和成功而已。
